About the event

As part of our speaker series, the Wappingers Historical Society presents a very special event in honor of Indigenous People’s month: Indigenous Wappingers: Experiencing our Native Roots.

Evan Pritchard (Mi’kmaq), Founder of the Center for Algonquin Culture, will lead an action-packed seminar recognizing the contributions of the Wappinger people.  Join special guests as we learn about the history of the tribe prior to Dutch settlement of the Hudson Valley and experience their language, culture and heritage.  View artifacts from the collection of the Wappingers Historical Society such as locally discovered tools, projectile points and pottery. Attendees will be able to participate in an “honoring ceremony” for a local resident of Wappinger descent, David Fescier, on the first anniversary of his passing. This program will take the full two hours to complete. The public is invited to attend. WHS member admission is free, non-member suggested donation of $5.00.
